Exposition
Introduces that Abner has been accused of burning the Land Lords barn. Satoris is identified as Abner's youngest son and is relieved when he doesn't have to testify in front of the court. The setting is the courthouse.
Rising Action
The Snopes family is forced to move because of the accusations against Abner Snopes. Abner takes Satoris to the fancy De Spain house. Satoris wishes that his father would change his ways and stop burning places. Abner gets angry at the De Spains and reverts to his barn burning ways.
Climax
When Satoris warns the De Spains that their barn is in danger, and Satoris Defies his father to do the right thing.
Falling Action
Satoris runs away and is on a hill feeling bad for leaving his family, but feeling relieved that he can finally be himself without having to be defined by his father.
Resolution
"He did not look back." Satoris moves on to begin a new life. He can now live his own way and do what he believes is right.
